When Buildings Learn to Think: MFEC’s Perspective from the CU Living ARCH 5.0 Project with Digital Twin Technology

Climate change is a critical global challenge that impacts both the environment and human livelihoods. Today, technology plays a vital role in mitigating these effects and addressing such challenges—ranging from clean energy to intelligent systems—all in pursuit of sustainable development. This raises an important question: in an era driven by AI, can technology help humanity effectively respond to environmental changes?

The CU Living ARCH 5.0 project is a collaboration between Chulalongkorn University, Cisco, and MFEC Public Company Limited. In this initiative, MFEC designed the role of Digital Twin technology to go beyond being merely a data visualization tool, evolving into a proactive management system that integrates environmental data, building systems, and real-world usage.  CU Living ARCH 5.0 is therefore more than just a smart building project—it represents the creation of a “living building” capable of sensing and analyzing changes both inside and outside the structure. For example, when the number of occupants increases, the building can recognize the change and automatically adjust its air-conditioning systems to optimize energy efficiency while maintaining occupant comfort.

For MFEC, this project also reinforces the organization’s commitment to ESG principles and reflects its philosophy of using technology to solve systemic challenges. Rather than simply installing solutions, MFEC focuses on transforming the way buildings are managed—creating a scalable model that can be expanded in the future. At the core of this initiative is the development of a Full Loop Digital Twin, which shifts building management from reactive problem-solving to predictive and preventive operations. This approach supports efficient energy usage and enhances the quality of life for building users.
