Proud to Be MFEC Jane Jaruwan Juipong – Sustainability Development Specialist

Hello, my name is Jane. I am currently working at MFEC as a Sustainability Development Specialist under the Corporate Communication and Branding (CCB) team. Today, I would like to share my journey in Corporate Sustainability Development—from my starting point as a Creative Content creator, to shaping my own career growth path, and contributing to MFEC’s achievement of the highest SET ESG Rating: “AAA”, as well as our continued journey toward FTSE Russell, elevating sustainability standards to the global level.

From Creative Content to the SD Committee

Looking back five years ago, my journey at MFEC began as a Creative Content professional. My main responsibility was to conceptualize and create content that communicated MFEC’s story to both internal and external audiences—through social media and corporate activities. The key challenge of this role was always the same question: “How can we tell MFEC’s story in a way that people truly understand and connect with?” Technology can often feel complex and distant to many people. Therefore, our team needed to create content that was not only informative but also easy to understand and clearly reflected MFEC’s values. Working in the technology industry means being in a fast-changing environment. What we learned yesterday may no longer apply today. Adaptability and continuous learning have therefore become part of MFEC’s culture. As a member of the Corporate Communication and Branding team—responsible for shaping and communicating the company’s image—I needed to constantly learn and adapt in order to truly understand what I was communicating to others.

After gaining experience in Creative Content, I was given the opportunity to expand my role into Sustainability Report (SD Report) writing. My responsibility was to transform data collected from multiple departments into content that was clear and reader-friendly. This was a significant challenge, as the information came in large volumes and various formats, while also needing to comply with sustainability reporting standards. To do this effectively, I had to thoroughly study the entire report structure to ensure accuracy and completeness. This marked my first real step into the field of sustainability. In many ways, sustainability reporting is similar to Creative Content work—it involves collecting information according to a defined structure, organizing it, and transforming it into meaningful content. The skills required are largely the same:

Research – In-depth information gathering for accuracy and relevance

Analyze – Interpreting data, trends, and audience behavior

Creative – Designing engaging and distinctive content

Storytelling – Communicating stories that resonate emotionally

Connect the Dots – Linking ideas and data from multiple sources

Data-Driven Thinking – Using data to enhance content effectiveness

However, one entirely new and challenging skill I developed was Coordination & Communication. With limited experience in sustainability reporting, I needed to fully understand what data was required, how it would be used, and in what context—so that colleagues from other departments could prepare the right information. Most of the people I worked with were highly experienced professionals, which initially made me nervous.  Fortunately, MFEC is a very open organization. Everyone was willing to guide, support, and even listen to my suggestions. What I once feared would be a barrier became a source of confidence.  Of course, challenges still existed—especially doing tasks I didn’t particularly enjoy. But I live by this principle: “Work we love fuels our passion. Work we don’t enjoy tests our responsibility—and responsibility is what ultimately leads us to success.” Ironically, the work I liked the least eventually became my greatest achievement.

As I continued working on sustainability reports, I gained a deeper understanding of sustainability frameworks. With strong support from my manager and teammates, I was given the opportunity to join the Sustainability Development Committee (SD Committee).  This initiative originated from MFEC’s CEO, Mr. Siriwat Wongjarukorn, who recognized the importance of sustainable business and set a goal for MFEC to become a sustainability-listed company. Like many others, my first question was, “What is a sustainability stock?”—and that’s where my learning journey began again.

Understanding SET ESG Rating Through Real Challenges

Formerly known as THSI, SET ESG Rating evaluates the sustainability performance of listed companies based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. It serves as a key reference for investors seeking sustainable investment opportunities.

In 2023, MFEC began its first ESG assessment. We had only two months to prepare documentation covering 21 categories and 150 questions, totaling more than 935 rows in Excel. The entire team worked closely together, supported by consultants, right up until the final submission. The result: MFEC successfully achieved a SET ESG Rating of “AA” in its first year.

Growth Through Dedication and Commitment

Throughout this process, my curiosity drove me to continuously ask questions and learn beyond the assessment requirements. Gradually, everything began to connect—like assembling a puzzle. I realized that sustainability was the path I truly wanted to pursue.  After discussing my career aspirations with my manager, Ms. Narada Manawatthakit, Corporate Communication and Branding Manager, the timing aligned perfectly with the formal establishment of the SD Committee. I was appointed as Secretary of the Sustainability Development Committee, responsible for overseeing the company’s sustainability initiatives.  This role required immense dedication, as I started from zero. Every step involved learning while doing. With MFEC’s continuous support, our efforts paid off—in 2024, MFEC achieved the highest SET ESG Rating: “AAA”.

A key factor behind this success was the adoption of MSustain, a platform developed by MFEC to streamline sustainability data management. It significantly reduced complexity, minimized errors, and improved efficiency—transforming manual Excel tracking into a powerful digital solution.

Moving Forward with FTSE Russell: A New Global Standard

In early 2024, the Stock Exchange of Thailand announced the alignment of sustainability assessments with global standards, introducing FTSE Russell, a globally recognized ESG rating agency. Once again, I found myself learning and adapting to a more rigorous evaluation framework.  FTSE Russell evaluates companies in the SET100 Index and those with SET ESG Ratings. MFEC automatically qualified for this assessment, reinforcing the growing importance of global sustainability standards among listed companies.  This journey is far from over. Sustainability has become a highly sought-after career path, and I am grateful to MFEC for being an organization that values openness, encourages independent thinking, and continuously supports professional growth.  I would like to leave you with this thought: “Opportunities come to those who are ready. Don’t be afraid to try. Don’t be afraid to learn.” When you commit to developing your true potential, opportunities will always follow.
